I agree with you on this Tank; there should be more danger to walking into 0.4-0.0 systems, and the sentry really disturb a lot of that. That also brings up the problem of npc control in general. There is WAY too much Concord control over space, making it too easy for the tree-hugging peace mongers (and at the same time, too hard for combat-type players). They cry about pirates "having their territories" but the problem is those spots are so few. Do you know why that is? Because the game currently doesn't allow them to spread out! There needs to be more support for pirates to move about and camp different spots without the sentry, without concord, etc. The game is too static in regards to combat. Right now everyone knows the pirate camping spots by name; they can go afk when not passing through those systems; it should have the ability to fluxuate to add a randomness and surprise to the game.
Solutions: option 1.) Make sentry in 0.4-0.0 empire *random* from day to day. Make players be caution because they don't know if the system they're passing through has sentry at the gates or not. Will also force pirates to do some scouting to find which systems have no sentry for the day.
option 2.) Let the sentry be jammed/destroyed. Make it so that after say... an hour or two after the destruction of a sentry gun, a large fleet of police ships will enter, (attack pirates), and redeploy some new sentry, stay for a while, then leave again. Forces the pirates to run, gives a period of safety, and allows anti-pirates the chance to build up a force at the gate to prevent further pirate infestation.
WOW my post has been all over the place now, if you skipped to the bottom I recommend not reading above :P
I'm too lazy to proof read or add anything so... bash away at my errors. I intend to write up a new post within the day about the problems and solutions to several of the control problems as far as Concord/sentry/PvP in empire space is concerned. Have more testing to do... my current results are that Concord takes only 8-13 seconds from a player's first PvP shot until Concord warps in, targets, target jams, and warp scrambles the player. G'night ______________
